On Sept 27, 1892, one of Greencastle township's oldest and most highly respected residents died - Mrs. Mariah Brandon, wife of ex-sheriff James Brandon in the 63rd year of her age.  Deceased had been seriously
sick for some time with valvular disease of the heart and her friends were more grieved than astonished when her death was announced on Tuesday morning. She was a good and a kind mother, a loving wife and
sure helpmate, a true friend and kind neighbor - her death is widely mourned. The funeral took place from St. Paul's Church, this city on Wednesday morning, Rev. Thos. A. McLaughlin conducting the services.  There was a very large attendance.  Mrs. Brandon came to this country alone when only 13 years of age; when 24 years of age she was married to Mr. James Brandon at Albany, NY and moved to this county in 1858
residing here ever since. She was the mother of 7 children, 5 of whom are living.   -- transcribed by kbz
